RESIDENTS are being allowed to return home this morning after a major gas leak yesterday.
The fire service was called to Victoria Avenue, Swanage at 9.25am on Tuesday after reports the main was emitting gas and 28 homes were evacuated after a drill on a building site hit the pipe.
Residents spent the night at the United Reformed Church. Victoria Avenue has now reopened and residents are being allowed back home.
Engineers worked through the night to repair the damaged pipe.
