Children in Need was hailed a resounding success as hundreds of fundraisers joined in the fun across the area.

Dorchester Rugby Club was the spot to be as youngsters dressed up for the annual fundraiser.

The club in Coburg Road held a fun day on Saturday with lots of family-friendly events to raise cash for the charity extravaganza.

Staff at the London store in Westham Road got on their bikes to raise cash.

They had an exercise bike in store and managed to cycle the equivalent of Weymouth to Land’s End.

Dorset Cereals had a barbecue to raise funds.

They had ingredients from local suppliers, held a baking competition and took part in a tug-of-war.

Mandy Cooper from Dorset Cereals said: “We’ve run activities to raise money for Children in Need for the past few years and once again we’ve had a great deal of support from local businesses who donated sausages, bacon, eggs and mushrooms.”

Staff at St Mary’s School in Beaminster put themselves at the mercy of pupils in a bath full of jelly while the Traditional Fish and Ship shop in West Bay donated their entire day’s takings to Children in Need.

Passengers travelling with Condor Ferries have helped the company’s staff to raise more than £1,000 for Children in Need 2011.

Condor Ferries’ sales and marketing co-ordinator, Rachel Gifford and deputy operations manager, Olly Futter presented a cheque for £1,002 to the charity.
