A MAN was left fighting for his life after a collision with a car near Gillingham.
Police said a black Volvo estate collided with a pedestrian on the B3092 at Mapperton Hill at around 7.15pm on Saturday.
The Volvo was being driven by a 40-year-old woman and no other vehicles were involved.
Emergency services were called to the scene and the road was closed as a result.
The pedestrian, a 23-year-old man from Mere, sustained life-threatening head injuries as a result of the collision and was initially taken to Salisbury District Hospital.
He was later transferred to a neurological unit at Southampton Hospital, where he was described as being in a critical condition.
A police spokesman said: “Witnesses to the collision or anybody who saw either the pedestrian or the Volvo prior to the collision are asked to contact PC 1061 Pullen of the western traffic department on 01305 222222.”
