EMERGENCY services were called to an address in Monmouth Road, Dorchester, following concerns for the welfare of one of the occupants.
A spokesman for the county fire service said they were alerted to the incident at around 6.15pm on Saturday by the ambulance service as someone was reported as being trapped.
Police also became involved as the fire engine that arrived on scene was blocking the road.
A spokesman for Dorset Police described the incident as a ‘concern for welfare’ and added: “Somebody was trapped in a small space in their own home.”
A spokesman for South Western Ambulance confirmed that a crew had attended the address and an elderly man was taken to hospital.
One eyewitness said: “It appeared to be a major incident because of all the emergency services.
“It was a relief to hear that someone was just trapped but I hope the gentleman is OK.”
