DISABLED artists will be gathering in Dorset tomorrow for a ‘Visioning Day’ ahead of a Cultural Olympiad performance.
They are preparing for a free spectacular public outdoor event for 10,000 people on Weymouth Beach, taking place on Saturday July 28 2012, 8pm to 9pm.
The performance called Breathe, links with the final day of Battle for the Winds – a unique three-day theatrical event to mark the opening celebrations of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Sailing events.
Breathe will tell the story of the Olympian god of wind, Aeolis, the stealing of the wind by Doldrum and the recapture and releasing of the wind back to Weymouth to allow the sailing events to begin.
Tomorrow, leading international disabled artists Alex Bulmer, Jamie Beddard and Dave Toole will come together in Bournemouth with South West arts organisations Diverse City, Cirque Bijou, Activate Performing Arts, Desperate Men, State of Emergency, State of Play and JAM event production.
Dorset company Diverse City has received a commission from the Arts Council and the British Council to bring together a cast of 58 local and international, disabled and non-disabled performers.
Jamie Beddard, lead artist said: “People who cannot walk will fly, wheelchairs will float and disability will be writ large over Weymouth”
