A HOT Christmas buffet lunch is up for grabs for 30 older residents on Portland.

The free festive event is being held on Wednesday, December 14 at the Community 2000 Centre, Easton for islanders aged over 55.

For several months now a skilled group of local people led by Tony Gibbons from the Training and Learning Company (TLC) have been meeting regularly to establish Portland’s very own ‘Friendly Food Club.’ The ‘Hot Xmas Buffet Lunch’ marks the culmination of weeks of hard work to learn and develop new recipes, select the perfect ingredients and budget for small or large scale catering events.

Island Community Action (ICA) spokesman Katy Pascoe said: “If the event goes well, we hope to start a monthly Friendly Food Lunch Club in the New Year, aimed at providing opportunities for older people to come together, enjoy a nutritious hot meal, with friendly service and great company.

“This event will be delivered by skilled local volunteers who have attended food hygiene training and already have experience of mass catering.”
