Licenced trade

LANDLORDS and suppliers of licensed premises are being invited to attend a meeting this month to find out about possible disruption during the 2012 Games.

The meeting, which is being co-ordinated by Weymouth Portland and Dorchester Licensed Victuallers Association, is being held at The Riverhouse Inn, Upwey on Monday, January 16.

It is for both local licensees and suppliers who deliver in the area, many of whom will be affected by changes to the road systems during the Olympic sailing competition in Weymouth and Portland.

Chris Hook from the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) will be giving a talk on the changes to the road system in Weymouth and Portland during the big event, including road closures and answering questions on food and drink delivery requirements.

To book a place or find out more contact Robbie Feltham, LVA Secretary on 01305 784926 or email robbief@btinternet.com or telephone The Riverhouse Upwey on 01305 812740.

New Zealand

A WEYMOUTH couple are taking their support of the Bring on the Games campaign to a new level while on a holiday in New Zealand.

Bernard and Ann Bryer, of Greenhill, have not only put two of the stickers on the front and back of their hire car to show off their home town’s involvement in 2012, but they are also taking the stickers with them to see the sights.

Retired Mr Bryer said: “We have been in Auckland for three days now and it hasn’t stopped raining. There appears to have been a slight improvement with occasional brief patches of sunshine. Our New Year’s dinner at the Sky Tower was excellent although the fireworks were obscured by fog. We have taken pictures to show how well travelled the logo is – one with a Maori and one with the Sky Tower.”

He added: “We want to promote the fact the Games are coming here to try and get people to come.

“We love Weymouth and wouldn’t live anywhere else.”

College

YEAR Seven students at Budmouth College are gearing up for their very own Olympic Day next month.
