A CHARMINSTER mum will be happily showing off her legs for the first time in 25 years this year.

Debbie Adams, 45, will be proudly displaying her pins following a pioneering operation to remove her varicose veins.

Mother-of-two Debbie said she is now brimming with confidence after years of embarrassment.

She said: “I used to feel like the Hunchback of Notre Dame.

“My veins were so bulging and blue, they looked like a bunch of grapes under my skin.

“If my partner Keith touched them he would literally recoil, and they hurt constantly, like toothache.”

Debbie, who is a parish councillor, first had her varicose veins stripped in an NHS procedure but says after the painful operation they were back within months and were worse than ever after her second child – five-year-old Max – was born.

She finally found relief thanks to veins specialist Haroun Gajraj, who runs the private VeinCare Centre and the Melbury Clinic near Yeovil, who used a new technique to remove her varicose veins without leaving any surgical scars.

Debbie said: “He told me it was a walk-in, walk-out procedure that would leave just a few tiny pinpricks on my legs.

“After all the years of misery, I didn’t think it would be that easy.

“But he was right, it was totally painless and after a couple of hours and a cup of tea, it was all over.”

She added: “I’m no Claudia Schiffer, but for the first time in over 20 years I’ve got smooth legs that don’t hurt or itch.

“I feel like I’ve got my life back.”

Dr Gajraj has now carried out more than 200 procedures using the new technique – called a phlebectomy – in the last three years.

He said: “The results are excellent.

“Of the patients who returned questionnaires, 98 per cent were pleased with their appearance after six months, the other two per cent – who had large veins removed – were very pleased at 12 months.”

Debbie is more than happy to vouch for Dr Gajraj’s handiwork.

She said: “I’m just delighted. I’m already looking at holiday brochures for next summer and I can’t wait to hit the beach.

“But it’s also the simple things like being able to run around after my son, walk down the street and sleep at night without feeling as if my blood is boiling.

“It’s given me a new lease of life.”
