JUST when you thought the panto season was safely behind you – oh no it isn’t! Doorway Theatre, Dorchester’s very own ‘pop-up’ acting company, is planning to prepare and stage A Lad in Dorchester in just one day at the United Church in South Street and everyone is invited to go and join in.

The play has been written by Stephanie Dale, who wrote the last Dorchester Community Play, and will be directed by Ian Billings, a renowned performer and writer who has worked on several children’s television shows including Chucklevision and Teletubbies.

Rowan Seymour, who is co-ordinating the play, said: “We are looking for anyone who wants to come along, take part and have a lot of fun.

“You can come along for a whole day, or just some of the time and it is the perfect thing for people who want to get involved in local drama but don’t have the time to commit to long rehearsals and a run of performances.

“The cast is gradually building but we still have space for more actors and stagehands.”

Also needed is a choreographer for the day and more musicians to accompany the play.

Rowan added that no one saw the script before the day of the performance.

She added: “We are looking for anything Chinese and launderettey or junk jewellery, pots and pans etc for Aladdin’s cave.

“All will be gratefully received – either on the day or I’m happy to collect them.”

People of all ages can join in the fun, although children under the age of 16 will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian and it is hoped that one of Dorchester’s Chinese restaurants will step in and offer to sponsor the production.

Rowan added: “It’s sometimes hard work drumming up enthusiasm but hopefully we’ll get lots of people here because the last one we did was great fun and a huge success.

“The whole idea is about having fun for a whole day.”

A Lad In Dorchester will take place in the United Church South Street, Dorchester. The day starts at 8am and costs £15 for the whole day, £10 for crew and backstage members. The performance is at 7pm, tickets £5.
