The main difference will be that heavy card and garden waste will be collected fortnightly.
Initially, existing green wheelie bins will carry on being used to save money and avoid sending a large number of perfectly serviceable bins to landfill.
Dorset is among the best counties in the UK for recycling with a rate of around 50 per cent. Even so, last year Dorset still sent more than 82,428 tonnes of rubbish to be buried, costing councils nearly £4million in landfill tax.
Across the county, every household sent more than 425 kg to landfill, the same weight as six washing machines.
