There’s no doubt that the closure of our high-street shops is a loss to those of us who wish to shop in the town, and a blow to the local economy.
What’s more, the resulting display of tatty interiors and fly-postered frontages is an affront to visitors and residents alike.
I suggest our council takes a leaf from the town of Falmouth where the problem has been mitigated by the adoption of a neat low-cost solution.
The windows of all empty shops are fully covered internally with a uniform style of paper mural, displaying a stylised nautical theme.
Weymouth could do well to adopt something similar, the Olympics are an ideal opportunity.
