PATIENTS at Dorset County Hospital will be able to take a trip down memory lane when a new facility opens next week.

The hospital is holding a tea party for staff and patients to mark the opening of the Memory Lane room on Tuesday February 21.

The room on the Barnes Ward has been furnished to look like a lounge from the 1950s.

It features objects donated by staff across the Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Ward sister Debbie Baxter said: “Elderly people suffering with dementia can find clinical surroundings confusing and distressing.

“Often their memories from the past are much clearer so spending time in the familiar environment of the Memory Lane room is reassuring.

“Thanks to colleagues from around the Trust who have donated objects and photos.

“Patients have responded really well when spending time in the room.”
