A MAN will appear at Weymouth Magistrates Court this morning charged with assault and traffic offences after an incident in Dorchester.

The 52-year-old Dorchester man was arrested after an incident outside the One Stop convenience store on Kings Road in Dorchester on Saturday afternoon.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said they were appealing for witnesses to the incident at 3pm on Saturday.

He said: “A 52-year-old Dorchester man was arrested and he will be charged with assault and traffic offences.”

The spokesman added that the man had also been taken to hospital and treated for non-life threatening facial injuries.

Witness Andrea Broom, of Dorchester, said she saw two men involved in a fracas outside the shop.

She said that she thought that the men were playing about but then realised it was more serious.

Dorchester resident and witness Andrew Gardiner added: “I heard a thump of a car first. I didn’t see what activity started it off.

“There was a bit of chaos outside I heard.”

Staff at the One Stop did not wish to comment.

Witnesses are asked by police to contact the officer in the case, DC Pete Gray, at Weymouth Police Station on 101.
