FRIENDS of West Dorset Music have launched a new centre for music, after a one-day orchestral workshop last month.

In partnership with Dorchester-based Strawberry Music, they will run fortnightly rehearsals on Wednesday evenings from 6.30pm to 7.30pm at the Christian Fellowship Hall in East Street in Bridport.

The first rehearsal is on Wednesday.

Pat Crawford, director of West Dorset Music Centre, said: “Instrumentalists of all ages and standards need to play in ensembles to develop skills. It is hoped that many from the local area will give support.”

Conductor Walter Brewster said the orchestral workshop was a wonderful mix of young and old of all abilities.

He said: “There was a tangible thrill in the air and in just a few hours they were able to present an exciting and challenging programme of music to parents and friends.”

Regular rehearsals will start with the orchestral group but the centre hopes to start other activities if there is interest.

Jane Brewster, of Strawberry Music, added “Demand to reinstate a local performance centre has been strong.”
