A GLOBE-TROTTING Dorset couple who met up again after 46 years were married in the Antipodes.

Terry Bown and Trish Warren nee Ascott, both 69, first met at Bridport Grammar School in the early 1950s but after leaving school Mr Bown went to London to join the Metropolitan Police and Mrs Warren went to Australia for three years.

She returned to the Weymouth area and worked at Radipole School for 25 years.

They were reunited 46 years later by match-maker and friend Sandra Brown at a school reunion.

Both Mr Bown and Mrs Warren had lost partners due to illness and Mrs Warren had recently returned to the UK.

The couple wasted no time, and were engaged within months of reuniting. While the happy couple were planning a holiday to New Zealand to see family, Mrs Warren suggested they get married while they were on holiday.

Plans were made for the couple to tie the knot in Wanaka, New Zealand. Mrs Warren’s sister Alice and her husband Robert Dupont had moved there after leaving their farming activities in Higher Langdon, Beaminster.

Mrs Warren’s daughter Jenny and her children from Melbourne flew over to be with them on the big day.

The newly-weds continued their trip ‘down under’ and their planned trip to Sydney, Australia became their honeymoon.

Mr Bown said that it felt brilliant to be married. He said: “She is wonderful.”
