POLICE have issued a warning to would-be graffiti artists in Dorchester.

The force has warned that graffiti is a form of criminal damage and anyone found to be responsible will face action.

The message comes after graffiti emerged on a wall on the cut through between Charles Street and the Tudor Arcade.

Inspector Les Fry, of Dorchester Police, said: “We would appeal for anybody with information relating to this damage to contact the local police and let us know.

“Graffiti is a crime that lowers the standards of the area and the community.

“We will take positive action against anyone identified as doing it.”

Last week it emerged that teams of offenders will be made to clean graffiti from the streets as part of their community service in Dorset.

The organisations involved in project Wipe Out say that graffiti is a growing problem and is one of the ‘key drivers of anti-social behaviour’.

Anybody with information about the graffiti in Dorchester are asked to contact Dorset Police on 101.
