A VOLUNTEER is travelling the length of the country by bike in memory of family members.

Teesside resident Andy Fisher will journey 410 miles from Haverton Hill in the north east to Portland Bill in his ‘From the Hill to the Bill’ challenge.

He will start his challenge on Sunday and hopes to help buy a minibus for a care home with sponsorship cash raised from the feat.

Former teacher Andy, 53, grew up in Weymouth and his father’s side of the family are still local.

The Middlesborough Volunteer Centre volunteer is cycling in memory of his parents and his cousin Alan.

He will raise money for care home Leonard Cheshire Disability at Marske Hall in Redcar.

His cousin Carole was a resident there until she died 15 years ago.

Andy said: “My cousin Carole had been a resident at the home for many years.

“I lost my mum and another cousin Alan within days of each other last year so I just thought I should do something to celebrate the family and in aid of the hall.”

He can be sponsored at justgiving.com/ablokeonabike and his blog is ablokeonabike.wordpress.com.
