The Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty has been involved in the restoration project of The Osmington White Horse.
James Hamilton (1748-1829), the architect responsible for many of Weymouth’s Georgian Buildings, designed the figure.
The Osmington Society which has played a leading role in the research and restoration of the landmark, has also researched the life of James Hamilton and would be very interested to hear from any descendants of James Hamilton, especially as the restoration project will be officially acknowledged shortly.
Would any Echo readers have connections to the Hamiltons of 18th/19th century Weymouth and Osmington? If so, please contact me at sue@merkle.org.uk
