THE great British tradition of panto is alive and well and living in Cattistock.

Those local residents who took themselves along to the Savill Hall last week will have witnessed a treat.

A bunch of amateurs were doing what the professionals might do better but without the enthusiasm, dedication and easy-going humour shown by this bunch of residents of all ages and shapes and sizes.

And it wasn’t as if their choice of panto was the easiest – the story of Pinocchio the wooden puppet who dreamt of becoming a real boy but couldn’t resist telling fibs.

It would be unfair to pick out anyone from this excellent ensemble although we suspect director Cherri Dyke had her work cut out trying to marshal them altogether.

But she did it while still retaining a sense of fun and humour with nobody in the cast taking the show too seriously and that sense of fun came across to the audience who participated in the same spirit. Who needs the professionals when everyday amateurs can produce such a great evening? Please, please keep the tradition going.
