A SERIES of events to celebrate the life of local hero TE Lawrence will take place in March.
Lawrence (1888-1935), is famed for his exploits leading the Arab revolt against the Turks during the First World War.
On March 4 and 11, Lawrence of Arabia Experience Days will take place at The Tank Museum, Bovington.
Tea, coffee and a talk by a National Trust representative will be followed by a tour of the museum and its Lawrence exhibition.
Visitors will then be taken through Bovington Camp to Clouds Hill, where Lawrence lived, for a guided tour.
Afterwards, they will visit his grave at Moreton Church before tea back at the museum.
Tickets to this event cost £50 per person and must be pre-booked.
On March 9, a ‘Lawrence as a Symbol for Modern Policy’ talk will take place at the Tank Museum.
Admission will cost £5.
It will be delivered by MP Rory Stewart and examine Lawrence’s military life, drawing parallels with British and American interventions in Iraq and Afghanistan today.
Rory is a former soldier, diplomat and deputy governor of a province of occupied Iraq.
A free family fun Lawrence of Arabia Weekend will take place at the museum on March 24 and 25 with activities and talks celebrating his life.
A ‘show & tell’ with Lawrence-related artefacts, a children’s trail, craft activities, and an Arabian-style souk in the museum will be highlights.
