CONTRACTORS have begun fitting the new laser lighting on Weymouth seafront.
Work began at 8pm last night on the new ‘Veils of Light’ columns and will continue tonight.
Parking spaces at Marks and Spencer and Alexandra Gardens will be coned off while the evening works take place to erect seven columns onto pre-prepared bases. The 15-metre-high illuminated columns aim to provide ‘subtle and changing laser generated illuminations’ that will extend across the beach into the sea.
The artist-designed lighting is one of the last parts of the £2.5million seafront regeneration programme.
An official launch of the lasers will happen in early May.
