SIX fire engines were called to a massive fire which ripped through small businesses on the Granby Industrial Estate in Weymouth.

A Dorset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said 45 firefighters were called to the inferno in Avon Close.

Black smoke was seen over the industrial estate and the link road between Hampshire Road and Chickerell Road was shut by Dorset Police.

No-one was injured in the fire, which began at around 3.45pm this afternoon.

Two units, Baby & Me and JMK Auto Repairs, were ablaze and a third unit was affected by smoke damage.

Staff from nearby buildings were evacuated and shocked onlookers reported seeing flames ripping through the buildings.

Cordons were erected by Dorset Police to keep people back from the fire.

A fire aerial ladder platform and two water carriers were also called to the scene.

A Dorset Fire and Rescue spokesman said there was no information on how the blaze started.

Fire crews remain on the scene.
