SKANDIA Team GBR is the British Sailing Team in the Olympic and Paralympic classes.

The team consists of the Performance Squad and Development and Transitional squads, which jointly total around 70 sailors.

Great Britain is the world’s top Olympic Classes sailing nation with the British sailors topping the medal table at the past three Games in 2000, 2004 and 2008.

In this Dorset Echo column, Skandia Team GBR members are bringing insight into the campaign for glory in 2012.

Here’s Weymouth’s contenders and Team Volvo for Life members Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark who sail the 470 dinghy: THREE months to go.

Phase one of our build-up to the Games well and truly began with two training camps in Palma, smashing the gym and getting on top of all our shore-based activities in Weymouth.

We’ve had two great training camps in Palma, one was focused almost entirely on upwind boat speed and boat handling, the other, more on starting and racing.

We have been trialling a new mainsail this year and feel we are really starting to get somewhere with it, especially in conditions which we felt were a potential weakness of ours.

The boat handling has also come along nicely as this was an area we kind of glossed over last year due to a very tight time schedule with the trials, meaning it took a back seat to other things which we felt were more important at the time.

As well as the brilliant sailing conditions Palma has given us, we’ve also come across our new favourite sport... paddle tennis.

It is a cross between tennis and squash and is incredible.

So whenever we’ve had a lay day or just need some down time, we head to the paddle tennis courts.

A big win for Han and Sas against Goody (Paul Goodison) and his coach Arthur was a very high point!!

The six nations was also quite the talking point of March. Many a discussion was had about who was better, the Welsh or the English. Clearly. The Welsh.

Some time back in Weymouth between camps was used for getting as much gym work in as possible, six or seven sessions a week, and eating as much as we can!

A National Ranker win in Weymouth and a lot of onshore time spent organising oursleves, our boats and our attack on the 470 girls fleet this summer.

We feel really excited about the year ahead and in good shape to implement our plan effectively.

Once again thank you for your support, it really is greatly appreciated.
