COMMUNITY groups in Dorchester have been given a boost by the Co-operative.
More than £1,000 from The Co-Operative’s Community Fund has gone towards two local groups.
Transition Town Dorchester was awarded £800 to buy a pond liner, underlay for an environmental project and Stepping Stones – a Dorset County Council project helping disabled people get more out of life – has received £300.
The Community Fund sees members of The Co-Operative Group who elect to donate all or part of their twice-yearly dividend.
Marlene Corbey, vice chair of The Co-operative’s Wiltshire and Dorset area committee, said: “Because our members own the business, they get a share in any of the profits we make.
“It’s a scheme we’re very proud of, not only because it gives us the chance to thank members for shopping with us, but because so many people choose to give something back to their local communities.”
