Fleet unveiled

A FLEET of cars, motorcycles and bicycles that will assist action at the London 2012 Games have been unveiled.

The London Organising Committee (LOCOG) and BMW Group, the official automotive partner to the Olympic and Paralympic Games, have announced the low-emission, diesel, hybrid and electric motor vehicles and bicycles that will be used at the borough’s sailing academy and other Olympic venues.

They will be used by the media, judges, event organisers, Games officials and staff, ranging from medical officers, IOC photographers and crew to official rights holders and technical delegates.

A total of 400 BMW Streetcruiser Bicycles will provide operational support for water-based sports – for use by team coaches and officials following races.

2012 hours

UNIVERSITIES around the country are celebrating their involvement with London 2012 this week.

Universities Week 2012, organised by Universities UK and British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS), will culminate with the BUCS Visa Outdoor Athletics Championships in the Olympic Stadium with a ‘2012 hours to go’ event.

This involves 1,200 student athletes from institutions around the UK competing for glory across 15 disciplines between May 4 to 7.

This will include the London 2012 Podium Awards presentation on Thursday.

Podium is the Further and Higher Education Unit for the 2012 Games. This one-off awards ceremony will recognise the vital role colleges and universities across the UK have played in delivering the London 2012 Games.

LOCOG chairman Seb Coe said universities have been essential to London 2012.
