A SHAVED head and full body wax will be the order of the day for a group of brave fundraisers.

Staff and regular visitors to the White Hart Pub in Weymouth will host a fundraising night to raise money for Weymouth youngster Max Price and Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital.

The head-shaving spectacular will take centre stage alongside live music and karaoke with a variety of top raffle prizes up for grabs.

It will be held at the Lower Bond Street pub on Saturday, May 19, from 7.30pm.

Money raised will help the family of four-year-old Max Price following the failure of his kidney transplant almost four months ago.

Max and his family make the costly journey to Southampton three times a week for dialysis.

Michelle Price, Max’s mum, said she was overwhelmed by the generosity from people she had never met.

She added: “We have had people from the White Hart coming up to us saying they will be raising sponsor money by getting waxed or shaved and we don’t even know them.

“We will be there on the night and would like to say a massive thank-you to everyone.”

Kristy Lucas, 35, teamed up with pub landlord Mike Singer to organise the event.

Mrs Lucas said: “I’m having my hair shaved off and I’m really excited about it.

“We’ve had locals volunteering to get waxed from head to toe.

“I’ve lost count of who is doing what.

“I work with Max’s grandfather Paul Allington and after seeing the strain Max’s illness had on his family I wanted to help.

“I knew the White Hart were planning a fundraising event so it made sense to team up.”

Mr Allington, 58, who works at the Verne Prison on Portland, said: “I think Kristy is really brave, she is not only a work colleague but a friend.

“Max will be put back on the donor list next month.

“After the last transplant failed they leave a few months for the body to recover, it is so much for a little boy to cope with but he is so brave.

“Any funds raised really help my daughter Michelle and her husband Shaun.

“Michelle has just passed her driving test so we hope it won’t be as much now – before they were relying on taxis and it was really expensive.”

Tom Holder, duty manager of the White Hart pub said: “Max is a lovely little boy and it will be a great night.”

Many local businesses have offered up prizes such as driving and windsurfing lessons along with donations from Cineworld, Cafe Royal, The Cove and many others.
