STUDENTS at a Weymouth school have won an award in a national competition to get pupils on their bikes.
The Big Pedal competition, led by charity Sustrans and sponsored by the Bike Hub, saw schools across the country competing to see how many journeys to school they could make by bike over a three-week period.
The Wey Valley School has been rewarded for its success in being the Fastest Secondary School in the South West with a new bike maintenance kit from Fisher and Weldtite.
Head of PE at Wey Valley Mark Salmon said: “Our pupils really enjoyed The Big Pedal, and working with Sustrans all year round. “There is always a great atmosphere when hoards of them arrive on their bikes.
“As part of our school bike club, our pupils regularly go mountain biking and have been visiting the track at Bournemouth Cycling Centre, so it will be great to be able to teach them how to repair bikes as well.”
