TELEVISION cameras drop-ped into a Dorset pub that is up for sale.

Escape to the Country presenter Jonnie Irwin paid a visit to the Gaggle of Geese at Buckland Newton to show a couple of prospective buyers around the pub.

After completing the filming Mr Irwin and his team then stayed behind for a bite to eat and was keen to sing the praises of the pub and the potential for anyone wishing to take on the premises.

He said: “We stayed behind and had lunch, which was fantastic.

“The Gaggle has huge potential – I love the fact it is the only pub in the village as this ensures it is the heart and soul of the community.

“It’s got a captive audience with a good split of sale.”

Mr Irwin added: “The land is an untapped resource and it’s clear anybody who takes it on will do very well.”

It will not be the first time the village pub has reached national television screens, with Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall also filming there for his River Cottage series. The watering hole went on the market for £325,000 earlier this year after owners Mark and Emily Hammick decided they wanted to spend more time with their young family running their farm.

The Gaggle of Geese is being marketed by Colliers Internat-ional, which presenter Mr Irwin used to work for before getting his big break on television with a presenting spot on A Place in the Sun – Home and Away.

He said: “I loved working with Colliers, especially the competitive element with rival agents and colleagues. It was a totally professional environment in which you were surrounded by experts.”

Former colleague Peter Brunt from Colliers International’s Bristol-based hotels team added: “The Gaggle of Geese has already attracted significant numbers of viewings but TV exposure on a popular show such as Escape to the Country is a fantastic opportunity to spread the word.”
