A WEYMOUTH man who was jailed after sparking a police manhunt following a spree of violent crime has failed in an appeal against his sentence.

Colin Paul Douglas, 26, was convicted of multiple offences including two armed robberies, arson, carjacking and burglary.

The offences happened in Weymouth, Portland and Dorchester.

He sparked a manhunt which ended with his capture in woodland near Whitcombe.

Douglas, pictured right, of Parr Way, was jailed for a minimum of nine years at Dorchester Crown Court in December.

Lawyers for Douglas argued in the Court of Appeal that it was “simply too long”.

But Lord Justice Davis, sitting with Mr Justice Treacy and Judge Peter Collier QC, said Douglas was guilty of a spree of “appalling and serious” crimes.

“We can see no fault or errors in the judge’s approach or conclusions and the result arrived at cannot be described as manifestly excessive,” he said.
