THIS aerial view of Weymouth and Portland was captured from 38,000 feet on a Virgin Atlantic flight by Chickerell’s Matt Denton.

The 35-year-old was amazed to see his hometown so clearly from such a height and snapped the picture using his iPad through the plane window, early on Saturday morning.

Mr Denton, who is a senior manager for Medisave, was flying back to Gatwick, London following a business trip in America.

He said: “It’s a very rare sight to see the entire uninterrupted view of the bay and surrounding areas.

“We were treated to an amazing view of the entire coastline from Lands End right up past Southampton.

“The picture was a real fluke, my colleague Mark Brisbane and I were on our way back from a conference in Orlando, Florida and we had a pretty good view from the top deck of the 747.

“We were sat right by the exit and I said ‘I hope it’s clear to get a shot of Weymouth’ and then it happened, there wasn’t a cloud in the sky.

“A completely cloudless view from the air is something I never thought I would see.”

He added: “If I zoom in I can almost see my house in Chickerell.

“I put the photo on Facebook and it got a huge response, 45 people ‘liked’ it and lots of people left comments.

“To go across Weymouth like that was just incredible, I just thought ‘Wow, that’s fantastic.’”
