A 77-year-old man was rescued after his hang-glider crashed into a cliff.

He was left hanging precariously on the cliff-face in the dramatic incident at Eype, near Bridport.

Coastguard and Dorset Fire and Rescue teams raced to the scene just before 6pm.

The man, believed to be from the Petherton area of Somerset, suffered a suspected dislocated hip.

Paramedics treated him at the scene for his injures.

He was then airlifted to Dorchester County Hospital in Dorchester by the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter.

A spokesman for Dorset Fire and Rescue said: "Crews from Bridport, Weymouth and Poole attended after a male hang-glider crashed into the clliff."

Firefighters managed to reach the man who was lowered from the cliff-face before he could be winched to safety by the helicopter."
