Sticker support

CELEBRITY Loyd Grossman proudly held up a Bring on the Games sticker during a visit to Portland and wished everyone involved the best of luck.

He said: “The sailing events will be fantastic. It’s wonderful that the Olympics are not just about London – it’s for the whole country and Weymouth and Portland are playing a big role.

“It is important that people from all over the county get to enjoy these events.”

Loyd was visiting St George’s Church as chairman of the Churches Conservation Trust.

The latest batch of 15,000 free window stickers are now up for grabs at the Weymouth Echo office on the Granby or the borough council offices.

Free tickets

FREE tickets for the borough’s Olympic Torch Relay evening celebration on Weymouth Beach become available from 7am on Tuesday, June 12.

Rapper Wretch 32, Britain’s Got Talent dance duo Twist and Pulse and an acrobatic display will be among the entertainment taking place to celebrate the Olympic flame’s arrival on Wednesday, July 12.

The event, which includes a mass drumming spectacular involving local children, several bands plus the audience, begins at 5pm and ends with a firework display at 9.30pm. It will be ticketed, with wrist-bands issued to 12,500 people who apply in advance online at dorsetforyou.com/2012torchtickets Those securing wristbands will be asked to collect them from a choice of six Tourist Information Centres before 4pm on June 29.

Ainslie’s aim

OLYMPIAN Ben Ainslie has a lot of expectation sitting on him this summer.

If he wins a fourth gold in Weymouth he could make history and become the world’s most successful Olympic sailor since sailing was introduced in 1900.

Every boat Ben has ever owned has been called Rita, and his current Rita has won two gold medals – no easy task for an old girl!

To do their bit to support Ben in the challenge ahead, the British Finn Association and JP Morgan Asset Manage-ment are asking supporters to show their encouragement with online networking tools.
