A MECHANIC found in possession of goods worth over £14,000 from 12 different burglaries has been jailed for 14 months.

John George Bull, Of Pageant Close, Bridport, appeared at Dorchester Crown Court to be sentenced after admitting 12 charges of handling stolen goods.

Carolyn Branford-Wood, prosecuting, said the goods were discovered in two separate raids, on a pair of industrial units at St Andrews Industrial Estate in Bridport on April 7 last year and at the defendant’s father’s address on July 20.

She said the property uncovered including lawn mowers, outboard engines and various other tools and gardening equipment.

Miss Branford-Wood said the property, which had a combined value of £14,400, was recovered from a dozen burglaries from various locations in Dorset, Cornwall, Devon and one in Worcestershire.

Judge Roger Jarvis said: “From the extent of your activity it is plain that you were a regular handler of stolen goods.

“If there weren’t people like you who are prepared to take burglars goods, there would probably be fewer burglaries.”
