Dorset to celebrate Diamond Jubilee in style
HANG out the bunting, grab a flag and get ready for Dorset to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee in style.
Up and down the country people will be celebrating 60 years of the Queen’s reign and in Dorset there will be hundreds of events happening across the bank holiday weekend.
As well as plenty of news and pictures on Monday and Tuesday, the Dorset echo will be presenting another Jubilee supplement next Wednesday featuring 16 pages of pictures from street parties across the area.
The staff and service users at Acorns Day Centre in Weymouth kicked off proceedings yesterday with a jubilee party.
One of the Jubilee highlights will be the boat parade on Sunday, June 3.
At 10.20am there will be a demonstration by the RNLI and Portland coastguard helicopter.
Then gunfire from the Nothe Fort at 11am will mark the arrival of a huge flotilla of boats which will parade along Weymouth Harbour.
All boats will travel up the harbour, salute guests and dignitaries at Royal Dorset Yacht Club on Custom House Quay before rounding a buoy by the Coastguard offices and returning to sea.
Live music will be heard throughout Weymouth as Wessex Folk Festival and Weymouth Quayside Festival offer a huge selection of music to suit all tastes across the weekend.
The Folk Festival runs until Sunday before the quayside Festival takes over until Tuesday, June 5.
In Dorchester there will be a huge Jubilee party in the Borough Gardens on Tuesday.
There will be films, pictures and music on display from throughout the years of the Queen’s reign.
This will be followed by a lantern procession.
We would love to see your pictures of the Jubilee.
