A WEST Dorset charity has welcomed its selection as the new mayor of Dorchester’s chosen charity.
First citizen Andy Canning has chosen Home-Start West Dorset, as his charity for his year in office.
Charity chairman Janet Kennewell said she was delighted with the news, which was announced at Councillor Canning’s mayor making ceremony, and looked forward to the boost it would give the organisation.
She said: “All those involved with Home-Start West Dorset including our volunteers and the families we currently help, are looking forward to an especially packed year.”
Coun Canning said: “I have been impressed by the hard work of so many volunteers who give freely of their time and energy to help young families who are struggling in these difficult times. “Bringing up children should be a time of joy and happiness and Home-Start are doing their best to help ensure that local families rediscover these feelings.”
