I don’t get it. Someone gets appointed mayor, says they will have prayers at council meetings, and everyone agrees because this represents their religious beliefs.
Another person gets appointed mayor, and says he won’t attend certain ceremonies because they are against his beliefs, and all hell breaks loose.
Either we are a tolerant society or we’re not. If the Mayor of Bridport doesn’t wish to attend a religious service or the queen’s Jubilee celebrations, then let’s respect his beliefs. His deputy can attend instead.
