THREE defendants have admitted perverting the course of justice after giving false information about a driver involved in a road traffic collision.

Damien Michael Bourne, 24, Lisa Anne Newey, 28, and Julie Helen Sheppard, 35, all appeared at Dorchester Crown Court in connection with the incident on June 12 last year.

Newey, of Kitchener Road, Weymouth, admitted perverting the course of public justice by giving police investigating false information that she was the driver of a Vauxhall Astra involved in the collision.

Bourne, of Shirecroft Road, Weymouth, also pleaded guilty to the same charge after he informed police that Miss Newey was driving and not himself. As the driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision Sheppard, of Podington Meadows, Chickerell, admitted giving false information that the other driver involved was a female and not Bourne, who was an uninsured driver.

Bourne admitted a further charge of driving without valid insurance and Sheppard admitted a charge of fraud relating to information provided to her insurers in connection with the collision.

The case was adjourned for a pre-sentence report and the defendants will return to court to be sentenced on June 20.

Judge Roger Jarvis warned the trio, who were all released on bail, that all sentencing options remained open.
