The sister of tragic teenager Lewis Monks has thanked everyone for their support.

Mel Monks, said: “Everyone has been so kind. There’s so much love for him – it’s amazing.”

Meanwhile, hundreds of people will attend an event to make sure that Lewis is never forgotten.

Friends of 19-year-old Lewis, who was killed in a collision on Friday, have organised a special night in his honour.

He died in an accident involving a bus on Newstead Road on Friday afternoon. Lewis, also known as Youngen, spent most of his time involved in the local music scene after wowing the BMX world with his biking skills.

Now others are welcomed to pay their respects in a way that friends said Lewis would have loved.

The event, which will take place this Friday at Banus on The Esplanade, will feature local MCs and music that Lewis loved.

Close friend of the family and event organiser Dean Dewland said: “The news was and still is a big shock to me.

“I’ve known ‘Little Lewi’ for over 10 years, living just round the corner from his family home.

“I have so many good memories of him, especially being in his back garden on the mud jumps, always being shown up by his talent.

“The family are all great characters and known widely throughout the town.

“I just want to help out in any way I can, and with my experience in event managing, I thought putting an event on in Lewi’s honour would be the best thing I could do.

“Some may think that this has taken much effort to organise but, in truth, it hasn’t.

“The whole town has got behind the idea, flooding the event page with ideas as well as offering time, services and even financial help.”

Banus nightclub has been hired free of charge for the event, with Sound and Light Hire Ltd providing equipment.

A book of condolence will be available to sign at the event, which will run between 10pm and 4am for over-18s only.

Admission will cost £3 with proceeds for the family. However, any donations are welcome and those that can not afford entry are still encouraged to attend.

Anyone who would like to offer help for the event can email Dean at iratebreakz@live.co.uk For more information, visit.face book.com/events/332134666862686
