It is always demeaning when a councillor makes derogatory and non-factual remarks.
To use the word scruffy against the hoteliers from Councillor Goodman, who at best has a rather unkempt appearance, is unworthy of him.
Perhaps he should be reminded that all of the businesses of the town have lost revenue due to the calamitous loss of Condor and because of the mismanagement of the harbour, for which he must as a councillor take some responsibility.
Coun Goodman must have forgotten that the vast majority of the seafront hotels are council-owned and contribute a large amount of revenue to the borough – some of which no doubt pays his expenses.
The viability of these properties has always been of prime importance to the council – perhaps, as he seems to disagree with this, he should press for the hotels to be sold to the tenants which would certainly enable the hoteliers to move forward.
Negative and silly offensive remarks by a councillor makes one question his ability to make good decisions; however, I am sure the hoteliers will take this into account at the next local elections.
