Yes, a big disappointment, the first laser lights evening with little to see and with the scratchy annoying noise from the PA system – it could be better! My evening was, however, improved afterwards firstly with a glass or two of wine with a relative sitting outside an Esplanade bar and secondly by hearing the verdict of a wag at the bar that the cause of the debacle was that ‘the cat had peed on the matches’!

But, hear this, I returned to the beach the next night at 10pm to a clear moonlit, gentle, mild evening with hardly a soul about. I saw a beautiful show of moving lights from every column, constantly changing their patterns and shapes and drawing me in to look all around the bay. Walking on the beach underneath the beams of green was quite magical. And to cap it all, I then sat at a beach cafe with a hot chocolate! I think Weymouth is moving on and I for one am enjoying it!
