MORE people are being caught this year in Dorset Police’s summer campaign to tackle drink driving.
The force said 52 motorists were arrested during the first two weeks of the campaign from Friday, June 1 to Thursday, June 14.
During last year’s campaign, a total of 40 drivers had been arrested in the first fortnight.
The month-long campaign runs throughout June, with every driver involved in a collision being breath tested – irrespective of whether they are suspected of drink driving or not.
Of the 52 people arrested this year, 21 were under the age of 30, and 18 of those were men.
Head of Dorset Police’s Traffic Unit Chief Inspector Matt Butler said: “It is disappointing to see that more motorists are risking their lives by drink driving this summer compared to last year.
“Throughout June, every driver involved in a collision will be breath tested. In addition, we have increased traffic patrols operating this month to catch drink drivers.”
Chief Insp Butler added: “I would like to remind drivers that drinking any amount of alcohol and then driving is dangerous. Don’t risk lives by drinking and driving.”
