A SCHOOL reunion will be held in memory of two former pupils who sadly lost their lives.

The Wey Valley School class of 2002 will unite in tribute to their classmates Karina Glynn and Claire Clements, who both died aged 17.

It will be held at Rendezvous bar and nightclub in Weymouth from 7pm on Saturday, June 30.

Organisers Pippa Rolls and Michelle Gilmour-Green hope that all their old school friends and teachers will show up.

Money raised will be donated to good causes with close links to the two very ‘inspirational’ young women.

Miss Rolls said: “Karina Glynn sadly passed away in June 2003 after a long and brave 20-month battle with cancer.

“Claire Clements tragically lost her lift in a car accident just a few weeks before – both were only 17.

“They were two very inspirational women.”

Funds raised will go to The Kingfisher Children’s ward at Dorset County Hospital, which supported Karina and her family throughout her battle with cancer.

The other half of the money will go to The Claire Clements Trust, which was set up by Claire’s parents, Michael and Barbara Clements and the Wey Valley School to assist young people to take part in outdoor activities. Miss Rolls added: “Karina’s mum, Rosemary Locock still works closely with the Wey Valley School to present the Karina Glynn Award annually to the most improved art student as Karina was a keen art student herself.

“Claire was a keen participator in outdoor education throughout her life.

“The trust in her name has worked with many different projects including Weymouth College, local schools, Julia’s House and the expeditionary society, since it first began.”

Mrs Locock said she was ‘absolutely thrilled’ that her daughter Karina would be remembered at the reunion.

She added: “The fact that Karina’s classmates are paying tribute to her while raising money for charity is fantastic, she would have been over the moon. I am absolutely thrilled.”

Barbara Clements said the trust in her daughter’s name would appreciate the much-needed funds.

She added: “It is a really nice way for Claire’s friends to remember her and Karina and it brings a lot of recognition to the Trust, which is much appreciated.”

Mrs Gilmour-Green, who helped to organise the event, said: “It not only allows all the ex-students to get back together but also ensures both Karina’s and Claire’s memories are able to live on.”

A grand raffle will be held on the night, thanks to local business who have donated a variety of prizes.
