SELFLESS Dorset youngsters who do extraordinary things in their community can be nominated for a special award.

The British Red Cross is appealing for nominations for its Humanitarian Citizens Awards to give recognition to generous young people who may otherwise go unnoticed.

There are four award categories – first aid, fundraising, community action and volunteering and those nominated do not need to have any association with the Red Cross.

Red Cross chief executive Sir Nick Young said: “We think the young people of this country who make the effort to help others should be celebrated and their achievements recognised. That’s why the Red Cross launched the Humanitarian Citizen Awards.

“Started in 2005, the awards are a celebration of our young people and the amazing things that they do.

“You can help your local heroes gain the recognition they deserve by nominating them for a Humanitarian Citizen Award.”

All nominees must be under 25 years of age and have made a difference to someone’s life. Entries will be open until July 8. To nominate a young person visit redcross.org.uk/theaward
