A DEVOTED clerk is looking forward to her retirement after 37 years of service to her parish.

Viv Swatridge was thanked as she stepped down from her role as clerk to the Frome Valley Parish Council, a post she had held since 1974.

At an open evening for all residents of the Frome Valley Parish Council area she was presented with a number of gifts from chairman Nigel Collins, pictured.

Viv received a picture of The Square in Cattistock commissioned from local artist John Coleman, a bouquet of flowers and a voucher for a luxury stay at a local inn.

Councillors had previously backed a formal vote of thanks to their long-serving clerk, who has been succeeded by Peter Dobbs.

Viv said: ā€œI enjoyed doing it while I was doing it and I made a decision in retiring and now Iā€™m looking forward to it.ā€

She added that she was delighted with the presentation from the council.
