A CHARITY day is being held for the Dorset Kidney Fund in memory of former Bridport businessman Brian Richards.

His daughter Hazel is organising the Rumble in the Jumble extravaganza on Saturday June 30 with a fair during the day and a bingo in the evening.

She told the echo: “All are welcome to come along. We want to raise lots of well needed funds to help renal patients and their families.

“There will be different tombolas of many different things and in the evening we have bingo plus a raffle.”

She added: “If anyone wants to bring a cake for sale they will be more than welcome.”

Mr Richards lived at the St James Home at Bradpole and was on kidney dialysis for nine years before his death at 71 earlier this year.

He was a former leading light of the Bridport Amateur Boxing Club, Netherbury Football Club and Bridport carnival.

The Rumble in the Jumble Day will be at St Mary’s Church House in South Street from 12pm to 4pm and then from 6.30pm onwards.

There will be cakes, jewellery, music, lucky dip and tombola stalls as well as competitions and raffles from noon until 4pm.

Then in the evening there will be a bingo and a raffle.

Proceeds are in aid of the Dorset Kidney Fund. The fund helps renal patients and their families.

Last year the fund’s help included buying furniture, accommodation expenses for someone while their partner underwent a transplant in Bristol, travel expenses and storage for dialysis fluid.

It also bought a computer for a pupil to help with her studies.

Hazel said thanks to all who donated a total of £437 for the kidney fund in memory of her father in the wake of his death and at his funeral. Wellwishers donated at his funeral or directly to funeral director AJ Wakely and Son. For donations of cakes, bric-a-brac and items contact Hazel on 01308 427837 or 0751 8241764.
