FINAL preparations are being made for the Dorset Echo Jobs Fair.

More than 1,000 jobseekers are expected to go along to the event at Weymouth Pavilion to take part in workshops and meet prospective employers.

Employment specialist BEST Training, which recently opened a training centre in Egdon Hall, Lynch Lane, will also be offering free one-to-one sessions with training and careers advisors.

CEO Lin Manners said: “In the current climate the funded training we provide to jobseekers is essential.

“Our priority is to ensure we equip the learner with the skills and confidence required to enable them to find employment.”

The company offers advice on returning to work, runs training programmes and helps jobseekers to improve their prospects by developing their CVs, interview techniques and presentation skills.

The free jobs fair, which is sponsored by Weymouth College, takes place tomorrow from 11am to 7pm.

Jo Appleby, business director at the college, said she hoped the event would be ‘the first of many’.

She added: “Weymouth College is proud to sponsor the Dorset Echo Jobs Fair.

“Being at the heart of the local community for education, we know the importance of supporting local businesses and people.”

Workshops, which will be running all day, include help on writing CVs, interview skills and confidence building.

The event also has the backing of the Weymouth and Portland Chamber of Commerce.

Anna-Maria Geare, president of the chamber, said: “The jobs fair is something as a chamber that we’d like to be involved in. Our members are all running businesses.

“They need to be able to have a good quality of employee who can hit the ground running.”

Mrs Geare added that the jobs fair would be particularly important for job seekers who finished education a long time ago.

“Many people in their 20s and 30s are going through a change of life and looking for a new career.

“There are also long-term unemployed or self-employed people going back into employment.

“It will be a chance for them to learn how to sell themselves.”
