DORSET Police are issuing a warning for people to be on their guard against a possible conman who tried to get money from a woman walking on Eggardon Hill.
The woman, from the Poole area was walking at the West Dorset beauty spot on June 20 when she was approached by an hysterical man she described as possibly Italian, who told her he had run out of petrol and his family were ill and he needed money.
She was suspicious and refused him and said if he needed help he should contact the police, at which she said he panicked and ran back to his car, possibly a BMW, with foreign plates.
PCSO Mark Brown said an alert had been sent out to Homewatch groups.
He said: “He could have been genuine but as soon as he mentioned the word police he scarpered “She was quite upset about it.”
