BRIDPORT’S Area Development Trust has launched its own website.

The trust was set up as a registered charity in 2009 with the aim of delivering community projects in Bridport and West Dorset.

It is currently taking the lead on projects to restore the Literary and Scientific Institute and the former Methodist Chapel in West Bay and bring them back into community use.

Part of its brief is to preserve buildings or sites of historic or architectural importance, to maintain, improve or provide public amenities, create training and employment opportunities by the providing workspace and to protect or conserve the environment.

Membership of the trust is open to local community groups and organisations.

It already has about 25 members and its trustees – Charles Wild, chairman, Tim Crabtree Vince O’Farrell Felicity Fairbairn, Diane May and Coun Sarah Williams – are all unpaid volunteers.

West Dorset MP Oliver Letwin has praised its work, particularly for its plan to revive the former Literary and Scientific Institute.

The BADT website is at bridportadt.org.uk, and the trust can be contacted on bridportadt@btinternet.com
