• Following my comments about the dangerously overgrown hedge alongside the pedestrian walkway between Wyke Oliver Road and Chalbury Close I am very pleased to be able to report that the overhanging greenery has been cut back. Full marks to W&PBC who carried out the work; they have earned the gratitude of everyone who uses this popular short cut.

• A nice item that would make a pleasing and practical present is a tea-towel showing all three churches in the team ministry – Preston with SP, Littlemoor and Osmington with Poxwell. They cost £3.50 each or 3 for £10 and are available from the Team Office (837147).

• The Mission Hall AGM will take place on Wednesday 11 July at 7.30pm in, as you might expect, the Mission Hall! It will be your chance to find out what has happened over the last year, and you are not at risk of being co-opted onto the committee unless you are very keen to assist. Why not go along and show your support?

• Dave Martin reminds me that from Saturday 21 July it will be the Sutton Poyntz Scarecrow season once again, when all manner of weird and wonderful creations grace the gardens in the village. Now is the time to get your thinking cap on and enter the competition. The winner, selected by popular vote of all visitors who fill in the forms available from the Springhead, will be announced at the Vegetable Show on Saturday 4 August.
