A COMMUNITY is shocked after a man was stabbed in the neck on a housing estate.

Police said a 19-year-old man was attacked outside a house in Littlemoor, Weymouth.

The victim was treated in hospital for injuries to his neck, ears and arms. He has since been discharged and is recovering at home.

Police have only just released details of the attack which happened a week ago near a property off Louviers Road.

The victim is from Poole and is believed to have caught a train from Weymouth to Upwey before visiting the estate.

It is understood he was attacked in Rockhampton Close behind the shopping centre.

A 21-year-old Weymouth man has been arrested and since released on bail while inquiries continue.

Borough councillor for Littlemoor Rachel Rogers said she was shocked to hear about the incident.

She said: “I would urge anyone who knows anything to inform the police.

“My heart goes out to the family of the young man involved and I wish him a speedy recovery.”

Coun Rogers added: “Littlemoor has problems but an event like this is unusual, it’s totally out of kilter with the way the community co-exists there.”

Littlemoor resident Jan Hinton said: “It’s such a shame because on the whole the estate is so good.”

Another resident, Colin Harmer, said: “I heard someone had been stabbed in the neck but not a lot else.”

He added: “I don’t think the streetlights going off at night have helped matters.”

Streetlights in residential areas of Dorset are turned off in the early hours but some communities fear it is aiding criminal activity.

Names are being collected for a petition at Littlemoor in a bid to make Dorset County Council rethink the move.

The stabbing happened around 10pm, before the streetlights went off, on Friday, July 6.

Detective Constable Sarah Desmond of Weymouth CID said: “We would like to hear from anyone who saw the alleged incident or any suspicious activity prior to it happening.

“We are also keen to speak to a man and a woman aged in their 20s that were reportedly seen talking to the victim on a train from Weymouth to Upwey before the alleged attack.”

Anyone with information can call police on 101.”

The alleged offender is described as a white man in his 20s, around 5ft nine inches, of heavy build and with short black hair.
